History in brief

The hockey club Tappara originates from TBK, Tammerfors Bollklubb, which was founded in 1932. TBK was promoted to the top Finnish hockey level in 1942, and won three national championships until the club’s hockey section changed its name to Tappara in 1955.

From the 1955-56 season until today, Tappara has played at the highest level of hockey in Finland, with one exception: after finishing last, the team briefly visited the lower level in 1965-66. Tappara returned to the top league a year after it was relegated and has stayed there ever since.

Tappara has won 19 Finnish championships. The latest national championships for Tappara came in 2023, 2022, 2017 and 2016. The other championship years are 2003, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1984, 1982, 1979, 1977, 1975, 1964, 1961, 1959, and Tappara's predecessor TBK’s 1955, 1954 and 1953.

Tappara played in Hakametsä Ice Stadium from 1965 until December 2021 and moved to new Nokia Arena at December 2021.
